Program "The creative act takes on a completely different aspect when the spectator finds him(her)self in the presence of the phenomenon of transmutation: with the change from inert matter into work of art, an actual transubstantiation takes place and the important role of the spectator is to determine the weight of the work on the aesthetic scale. All in all, the creative act is not completed by the artist alone; the spectator establishes the contact between the work and the external world by deciphering and interpreting its most profound qualifications and by adding his (her) contribution to the creative act. This contribution becomes even more obvious when posterity pronounces its final verdict and sometimes rehabilitates forgotten artists. " Marcel Duchamp, 1957.
