Theoretical Program:
Bathetic – irony and theoretical or practical dissonances. When the ideal slips and perfection contradicts itself and suddenly falls into error or the unexpected.
In Antiquity the competitions between gods came to nothing and the whims of seduction succeeded:
- Cyclops and argonauts – the irony of the weaker. Apollinian art and the Dionysiac reverse.
Laughter and opening up to transcendency in the Middle Ages; irony and satire in the Modern era.
The aesthetic that becomes a mockery of fashion with William Hogarth or the ironic Science of Jonathan Swift.
The avant-garde slap in the face or the apophatic silence of the post-avant-gardes. Bathetic and banal in the Dadaist eccentricities; brutalism and pandemonium in manifestos. The folly in the works of Jack & Dinos Chapman.
Practical program:
Teachers Gonçalo Robalo, Ana Dias and Margot Vilaça will freely make their practical proposals, personal and interpretative, with a special focus on creative processes that differ from drawing or painting.
