Drawing I is the central discipline of Level 1. Evaluation of the student’s progress is at once continuous (the responsibility of teachers) and formally confirmed several times a year in the presence of the head of department. Throughout the school year students are expected to elaborate a consistent and diversified portfolio. Distinctive characteristics of Drawing I: a strong emphasis on line as a central element in drawing; experimentation and concentration considered as crucial factors for promoting rigor and progress. A variety of themes will be explored in both conventional and unconventional ways through the use of graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, felt tips, nib-pens, India ink, dry pastel and oil stick, gouache and watercolor, as well as other non-traditional materials. The learning process benefits from the contributions of guests and includes activities that take place outside the school installations.
