CCreation of a piece to be shown in a group exhibition, opening possibilities for object-books and installations. Image, text and material will be worked as a whole while exploring a personal visual space/universe.
Taking as a starting point the analysis of an artistic work with which the participant identifies him/herself (film, book, painting, sculpture, etc.) a Visual Archive/Notebook is developed as a basis for the exploration of the theme, your Space.
Questions are suggested (for instance: what does my space look like? What exists there? Who inhabits it? How is the weather in my space? What does one hear in my space? What does one feel in my space?) in order to trigger answers, more direct or more metaphorical. These answers are registered in the Notebook and feed the exploration of that Personal Visual Universe.

The main objective of the Illustration course is to develop, through short spanned exercises, the students’ skills for graphic expression, as well as their capacity to interpret an idea or text for drawing (illustration). Throughout the school year exercises will deal with the concept of the original, as well as with editing and publication. The creation of images in different techniques explore the relations between image and text and each student’s capacity for interpretation. Working in various contexts of illustration (postcard, poster, book cover, magazine) clarifies the specific demands of each one of these situations. Analysis of various publication formats (illustrated album, fanzine, book-object) will help to adapt each student’s portfolio to the characteristics of one of these hypothesis.

Adventures in worlds never seen before, meetings with fantastic beings, reckless or idyllic places – real or imagined, they went on to colonize legends and myths since times immemorial, enchanting whoever read or listened to them. In this course we will account for the way in which illustrations that accompanied or simply produced such reports achieved prodigious digressions that immortalized them, ending up as autonomous fictions, popular and lively.

Creative writing workshop applied to the picturebook. Participants will carry out practical exercises in creative writing, or writing and illustration, and learn techniques to unblock writing.
The motto for this workshop is found in short texts that will be read in class: from Aesop's fables to the surprising poems of Brian Bilston, by way of Mayakovsky's children's books, The Characters, by Theophrastus, or A Book of Nonsense, by Edward Lear. An approach to these and other texts will help to recognize the mechanisms of narrative and writing, serving as an inspiration to the students.
At the end of the workshop, students are expected to hand in a final work where they put into practice the knowledge acquired.

Rumours fly and reproduce in legends. They are associated to the goddess Fame and can cover truth with darkness just as they can make it drift towards the most wonderful fantasies. The course approaches the fanciful incursions in the field of science that originated legends and fabulous figurations, treated as prodigious discoveries that found an echo in illustrations. Considering the historical period that goes from Antiquity to the 21st Century we will account for various projects of virtuous devices in drawings and in prints that, like a virtual hypertext, made Art profit from the scientific falsities where curiosity won the battle over truth.

Exploring the expressive and stylistic potential of black ink drawing, with one foot based on cinema and the other on comics.
Departing from black and white cinema references, the students will draw key scenes from the various films filtering their interpretation through the personal styles of different comics authors. They will do so using black ink exclusively.
The workshop will be divided into two phases. First, a new pair of film/Comics will be given to interpret in each session: a Metropolis scenario, by Fritz Lang, with the thick and confident lines of a Jack Kirby, for instance, or a scene from O Sangue, by Pedro Costa, in the light of the shaky and anarchic gesture of a Brian Chippendale. In a second phase, the drawings produced will become the starting point for the elaboration of two comic strip boards by the enroled students.
The program’s ultimate purpose is the development of two essential skills: 1) principles of scene composition and light modulation that can be used in illustration as well as in comics; and 2) observation techniques that allow for the identification of the characteristics of the graphic styles of different authors, so as to consciously use them and adapt them according to one’s own affinities. Students will also learn to identify the materials appropriate for the execution of specific expressive modulations, always using black ink drawing.

Notes For the first session, students must bring:
A3 pad (preferably over 120g in weight)
Permanent black ink pens of various thicknesses (with tips between 0.1 and 0.8)
Very thick black ink marker.
