Programmes

Note: In light of the covid pandemic and the unpredictability of its evolution, the programs for 2021/22 may undergo format adaptations (to on-line or on-premise learning, or a mixture of both), Ar.Co’s priority being the on-premise format whenever possible and adequate. The schedules here announced therefore mention the format in which, except when impossible, the subject in question will be taught. Ar.Co will rigorously follow and implement all DGS guidelines, including the use of masks, distancing and hygiene.

On the fringe: the Bestiary, the bizarre and illustrations' intersections with texts and other ‘front page’ arts.

On-line classes.
To illustrate means bringing to light and, in history, artistic ingenuity has given free rein to fantasy, often to end up in worlds that proved inaccessible to Reason.
The bestiary has also served the purpose of speaking about the human in oblique ways, through various asides in texts or narratives and every sort of distortion, when the wonders of the world were yet to be known and reached.
The modern world, confident in the sympathies between all species in Creation, will scrutinize the physiognomy of beasts looking for human psychology, blurring the limits of both categories.
Artistic hierarquies are also dissolved as the minor bestiary in sketchbooks moves on to the big canvas, while the Human is enunciated in more monstruous becomings.

In the path of Mnemosyne: Babel’s utopia; The world Atlas and the chain associations of hypertext.
On-line classes.
Mnemosyne – the goddess of memory and mother of the muses, associated to Atlas holding the world on his shoulders, turns into an art of visual reconstitution and support of oratory, while at the same time expressing a symptom of the human desire to know and control everything. Its use will be expressed in visual taxonomies and scientific schemes, in the logic of imagery in language and in the grammatical games of mnemonics – the “total art” in a theatre of concepts and images, a representational microcosmos of everything that exists or can be thought.
This idea of a total Atlas of imagery also implies the opportunity to overcome Reason – in the use of drugs, by diving into the unconscious of lapsus linguae, in the puns of pataphysics, in Dada, in Surrealism.
In the footpath of Memory as a monumental compilation of artistic forms, we will go from Ad Reinhardt’s cartoon jokes on the History of Art to more complex projects of the images’ journey through time (Warburg), until we find its reverse – the melancholy of that which is destined to oblivion (Robert Smithson’s projects or Rodney Graham’s pantomimes).
