Program What are “Modernity”, “Modernism”, “Post-Modernism”? Introduction to the History of Art organized by themes, centered on the concept of “Modern Art”, its “before” and its “after”; structured in two school semesters that can be attended separately. The art of the “Renaissance” will lead us to two pasts and two futures: one past, close by, with which there is a rupture (the “medieval”) and one past, remote, that legitimizes the changes (“Antiquity”). A future that builds a “classical” culture, as an extension of Renaissance utopias, and a future that inflects them and transforms them, until “classical” culture is destroyed. As we take questions of contemporary culture as a point of departure the path is not chronologically linear. The group of works under discussion is centered, exclusively, around painting, sculpture and architecture – and on a “European” - or, should we say, “Western” - cultural tradition, so as to more obviously include its “colonial” and “globalizing” extensions.
