Painting I is the central discipline of the Course’s first year. Evaluation of the student’s progress is at once continuous (the responsibility of teachers) and formally confirmed several times a year in the presence of the head of department. Throughout the school year students are expected to elaborate a consistent and diversified portfolio. A wide variety of practical exercises, both technical and thematic, promotes the development of a pictorial sensibility and a progressive knowledge of the tradition of Painting. The themes suggested in class will be explored, alternatively, in conventional and non-conventional modes, making use of various materials: oil and acrylic paints, gouache and watercolor, chalk and pastel, India ink, etc., besides other less traditional materials. The learning process is further enriched by contributions brought in by guests and by activities outside the school.
